Your Thermostat – The First Step to Comfort in Your Home

August 16th, 2011 Comments off

Charlotte NC thermostat installationWith so much focus and attention paid to your air conditioning unit, it can be easy to look past the main area of control for your unit – your thermostat. While your air conditioning unit needs essential maintenance and inspections, it is equally important to ensure that your thermostat is of working order. After all, an improperly adjusted thermostat can cause wild fluctuations in your temperature settings, making for an extremely uncomfortable home and sky-high utility bills. Our Charlotte NC HVAC experts at One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning can assist you in making sure your thermostat is up to standard.

With our experts on your side, you can be assured that your thermostat is of the highest quality. A thermostat utilizing the latest technology has many benefits of an older model. A digital thermostat can effectively regulate temperatures much more accurately than an older mercury-based model, meaning you can set your selected temperature and be assured it will stay at that. With older models, dust or debris can sometimes settle in the thermostat and disrupt the temperature setting, causing unnecessarily high utility bills. With a digital thermostat, comfort comes first.

Many thermostats today are even programmable, allowing you to set different temperatures for different times of day. No longer will you have to worry about coming home after a long day’s work to a hot house full of stagnant air. A programmable thermostat can keep your home comfortable all day long.

Thermostat installation and repair can be a complicated issue, so you shouldn’t attempt to tackle this task alone. Our reliable air conditioning experts can service your every thermostat need today. Staying Warm and Saving Money For the Winter

January 20th, 2011 Comments off

Heating MaintenaceStarting to notice a spike in your heating bill? You’re not alone, but with the chillier temperatures, that increase is expected around this time.

One of your new year’s resolutions may have been to save more money in 2011. Although the thermostat is running a little higher and longer than average, there are ways to keep your home warm – and your wallets full – with simple adjustments here and there. Check out the following tips from our expert Charlotte NC heating technicians that will help you save money.

  • Change up your curtains: The curtains that “look nice” in your home may need to be replaced by the curtains that “provide comfort.” Thermal curtains, which give added insulation to a room, are made to not only warm up your home but also combat your heating bill. These curtains can fight off the cold temperatures now and give much-needed shade during the months with the hotter temperatures.
  • Set your thermostat: Just because the temperatures are cooler doesn’t mean your thermostat has to reach a certain degree. A two- or three-degree difference, believe it or not, can make a major difference in what your heating bill is and what it could be. Instead of 75 degrees, drop it to 70 or 72. If you have it at 70, try setting the thermostat to 67 or 68 and put on a sweater or sweatshirt to combat the cool. Remember, you want to be comfortable, and this can be an economical answer for you.
  • Do routine check-ups: Heating maintenance is so underrated that it often goes unnoticed – and untouched – in a home. In the winter months, make sure your furnace is in great shape and your furnace filters are fresh. Be on the lookout for leaks, as they can cause havoc (mold, foundation issues, etc.) all around your home. Keep your radiator and hot water heater in top shape. Little things like this will help in the long run.

Take advantage of these tips, and live life the way you planned when you first made the resolution. Let our Charlotte HVAC company help you in achieving your financial goals when it comes to your heating system and maintenance. Call us today, or contact us online for tips and information.

Switching to a Digital Thermostat

November 22nd, 2010 Comments off

A thermostat, as you probably know, is a device that controls the temperature of your home or office. In the past, analog (dial) thermostats have been the standard of temperature control; however, along with the digital age comes digital thermostats. These devices, which have several benefits over their analog counterparts, can be purchased and professionally installed from our Charlotte air conditioning company.

Digital Thermostat

Unlike analog thermostats, a digital thermostat offers a large LCD screen to make the temperature reading simple and straightforward. This makes everyone’s life a little bit easier, but particularly benefits those with poor eyesight. Further, you afford yourself the precision of a digital instrument.

Analog benefits aside, a digital thermostat may also allow you to control your furnace or air conditioner depending upon the time of day. And more, you may even be able to control your home heating and cooling by zone!

Programmable Thermostat Importance

June 28th, 2010 Comments off

Unfortunately, with today’s heating and air conditioning needs and the desire for energy conservation many of the older styled thermostats simply do not provide the level of control you want and desire.

A programmable thermostat is a great way to regulate the temperature in your home! A thermostat is a device for regulating the temperature of a heating and air conditioning system so that the temperature is maintained near a desired set temperature.

The thermostat does this by controlling the flow of heat energy into or out of the system. Which means the thermostat switches heating or cooling devices on or off as needed to maintain the correct temperature.

We recommend a talking thermostat, because talking programmable thermostats give you clear step-by-step instructions provided by a voice that helps you find a great comfortable temperature setting. And programmable talking thermostats remind you when to change your system’s filters with a ‘call for service’ alert when your system needs maintenance.
