Oh No! Frozen Air Conditioning Unit
It’s the middle of summer, you walk outside for fresh air and notice ice sickles on your air conditioning system. How‘s it possible to have a frozen air conditioning unit in the middle of summer and what do you do?
The buildup of ice and frost means the air conditioner is functioning properly. If you continue to run your air conditioning unit, ice will cause permanent damage to your HVAC system.
First, turn your frozen air conditioning unit off and defrost it completely. After it has defrosted, clean or replace any dirty filters, to make sure that it is not clogged.
Most of the time the airflow on the air conditioning unit is being restricted by dirt and other times it’s just low refrigerant. If you can’t find the problem, please make sure the unit is thawed out and call One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning in Charlotte so our technicians can diagnose the system.
